What We Do

IMU is a new venture representing some of the best independent music labels, helping them licence content to brands and agencies who want to use music as part of their marketing campaigns.

IMU was set up to meet the demands of today’s fast-changing marketing world. Brand campaigns no longer rely just on 30” TV spots – instead there’s a mix of Facebook pages, MySpace profiles, Twitter streams, podcasts, video streams, events and more. It’s created a need for fresh content on a year-round basis.

Traditionally it’s been a difficult process to use the content you want to because so many licences and permissions are required. IMU has been set up to make this process easier, faster and more cost-efficient for brands and agencies, and at the same time help independent labels benefit from credible brand partnerships.

IMU Artists

The labels behind artists like Bloc Party, Simian Mobile Disco, Fleet Foxes, Justice and Florence and the Machine are already on board, with further additions in the pipeline.

The range of artists spans all genres – whatever your target audience or brand positioning is, we can offer a solution. We cover everything from electronic act Metronomy through to world music sensations Amadou and Mariam, by way of Uffie, Fleet Foxes and Les Savy Fav.

You can browse artists and labels by clicking on the Catalogue button above, or call us and tell us what you’re looking for and we’ll use our finely-honed matchmaking skills to find the right content for you.

We’ve worked for brands, for labels, for artists, for agencies: we have an instinctive knowledge of what will and won’t work for all parties, on all levels, and will be upfront with that information at all times.

Our staff have experience of crafting and implementing marketing strategies for a wealth of major international brands. We are both highly schooled in traditional brand marketing and strategy, and have a proven track record for pushing the envelope.

Our knowledge of independent labels, artists and management comes from many years’ worth of experience working within the music industry.

How it works

We will manage deals from end to end, giving both you and our labels confidence in creating successful partnerships.

We have framework agreements in place with the labels we represent, and so we can do deals with a minimum of paperwork, ensuring that your money gets spent on acquiring great content, not on paying great lawyers.

You can approach us with a specific request for an artist to create something for you, or come to us with a wider brief and work with us to come up with potential solutions.

We will do all the hard work of liaising with the labels, so you’ll get one single answer and one single price. It’s easy, it’s transparent and we’ll do our best to make sure it’s fast too.

Get Started

Pick up the phone or drop us a line and we’ll talk through your brief and your requirements with you. If you’ve never done this before, we’ll help you understand exactly what rights you need to be able to activate your campaign. If you’re a seasoned pro, you’ll hopefully find the process easier than it has ever been before.

Our Rights Request sheet will capture every angle and every ask on your list, and we’ll take that to labels and artists and come back to you with an answer of what’s possible and what’s not. If we can’t fulfil everything you want, we’ll suggest alternatives which are achievable.

We understand how fast-paced marketing and especially the new world of social media can be. We’re committed to getting you what you need in as short a time as possible.

TIP FOR 2010 - THE DRUMS IN BBC TOP 5 AND NME COVER STARS

Moshi act The Drums more than deserve their Top 5 place in the BBC’s definitive Sound Of 2010 poll: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/8438585.stm. Designed to highlight the most exciting and hotly-tipped new acts for the new year, those on the shortlist were selected by a panel of 165 of the UK’s most respected music industry tastemakers.

Not content with featuring heavily in pretty much every other ‘Tips For 2010’ shortlist…the band also graced the cover of the NME’s annual and hugely influential new bands issue.

The Drums’ debut album will be released this Spring. Huge things await!!
